House of Cats Ernesto thanks IFAW for supporting repairs and animal rescue
Following the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria in early February—and an explosion from a nearby airstrike in June—House of Cats Ernesto in northern Syria faced serious damage to community buildings, including numerous broken windows, a crumbled iron gate, and destroyed barns and stables, and animals required rescue and care.
IFAW provided support to House of Cats Ernesto by funding the repair of these buildings and supporting those who gave lifesaving care to hundreds of animals injured by the earthquakes, including ones that the team rescued from the rubble. These animals include ducks, turkeys, rabbits, sheep, cows, goats, and donkeys, in addition to cats and dogs.
The House of Cats Ernesto team has expressed their gratitude for IFAW and our supporters. They have been able to provide medical treatment for injured animals and shelter and care for animals who became separated from their owners.
One of the dogs they rescued, Bobby, was found covered in mud on the side of the road with injured and paralyzed hind legs. After receiving treatment and rehabilitation from the House of Cats Ernesto team, Bobby has been able to walk and run again using a special wheelchair. Bobby is now a permanent resident of the sanctuary and a friend to the other dogs who are housed there.
IFAW’s support also enabled the team to repair and rebuild four barns and stables that the earthquake demolished.
We are glad that we could support our local partners in Turkey and northern Syria and help countless animals in need. We would not have been able to do this without the help of our amazing supporters.
