2022 world wildlife day international youth art contest embraces key species and the critical importance of conservation

(Washington, D.C. - December 13, 2021) – In celebration of World Wildlife Day (WWD) 2022, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), is hosting its fourth annual international youth art contest in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Celebrated each year on March 3rd, the CITES-designated theme for 2022 is "Recovering Key Species for Ecosystem Restoration," which aims to draw attention to endangered and critically endangered wildlife and to highlight the power of conservation efforts seeking to reverse their fate.

Building upon the growing success achieved from previous international youth art contests, the fourth annual contest engages school-aged children from the ages of 4- 18 and encourages a sense of connection with the natural world, tapping into the creativity of young artists in a way that embraces the critical importance of conservation. 

Past contests have received hundreds of entries from dozens of countries all over the world. Twelve semi-finalists and one separate prize winner will be selected by a prestigious international panel of judges. Their name will be announced and their entry featured at the annual World Wildlife Day event held virtually on March 3, 2022. Last year’s winner was Ka Yi Siu of Hong Kong SAR, China, with her piece entitled "Balance Between Urban and Nature."

The first day to submit entries is today, December 13th, and interested youth artists can submit their artwork electronically through IFAW’s art contest webpage through 11:59 p.m. GMT on January 16, 2022.
