Make a pouch for orphaned joeys
Make a pouch for orphaned joeys
Feeling crafty? Handy with a needle and thread? We sew need you!
IFAW partner Bonorong Wildlife Hospital rescues and treats thousands of animals a year. Many of these are orphaned joeys, including wallabies, possums, wombats and Tasmanian devils.
After treatment, every joey is released out to carers in a pouch, so that they can be cared for and bottle-fed until they are ready to be released back into the wild. The pouch mimics their mum’s pouch, where they spend most of their young lives, staying safe and warm and feeding on mum’s milk.
Pouches are needed in all shapes and sizes, from tiny baby bandicoots to larger wombat joeys. They need regular changing and cleaning, so a plentiful supply is needed. That is a lot of pouches! Can you help?
Download this easy-to-follow pattern and post your handmade pouch directly to the Bonorong team at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, 593 Briggs Rd, Brighton TAS 7030.
Our work can’t get done without you. Please give what you can to help animals thrive.
