Room to Roam – More than 60% of Africa’s elephants live in or migrate into areas outside of national parks and other protected spaces. This makes them vulnerable to human-wildlife conflict and their greatest threat to their survival— poaching. Together, we can create a network of protected spaces where elephants and other animals can safely migrate and people can thrive alongside wildlife. A transformative gift to the Room to Roam Campaign protects wild spaces and wildlife, helps rangers stop poachers, and supports sustainable economic opportunities for people in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi. Animal rescue - Now more than ever, the effects of climate change are dramatically increasing the frequency and intensity of disasters causing devastation and destruction that impact people, pets, and wildlife alike. Human-caused threats to animals like oil spills, war and illegal wildlife trade leave animals injured or orphaned. Ocean pollution can entangle wildlife and shifting tides cause dolphins to be stranded. IFAW’s expert global network of staff and volunteers are trained in the best practices in rescue & work with communities to reduce risks by including animals in their emergency plans and policies. Wildlife Crime – Our global network is on the frontlines to ensure that animals have the protection they need from the illegal forces that threaten their survival. Our Wildlife Rangers, Detection Dogs and Wildlife Security Handlers, Policy and Advocacy teams, Businesses and Communities are leading the way in the fight against the serious crimes of illegal wildlife poaching, trafficking and trade. IFAW also collaborates with World Wildlife Fund, TRAFFIC and global online technology companies, to convene the Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online. IFAW’s latest report issued in the United States entitled Digital Markets: Wildlife Trafficking Hidden in Plain Sight offers a glimpse into the nature of the online trade in protected wildlife species via a six-week investigation into 34 popular, US-based online marketplaces. Marine Mammal Conservation - Marine mammals are increasingly affected by fishing gear entanglements, ocean noise, vessel collisions, whaling and climate change. If we don’t act now, these threats facing marine life will lead to species extinction and will have devastating effects on our planet in fact, it’s critically important to save the North Atlantic Right Whale species now because there are fewer than 340 left. To read more about the plight of the Right Whale click here. We aim to protect millions of marine species from danger as we partner with governments, non-government organisations, communities and our supporters to take bold action and protect the world’s oceans.
