European Union
The Member States of the European Union have decided to link together their know-how, resources and destinies. Together, they have built a zone of stability, democracy and sustainable development whilst maintaining cultural diversity, tolerance and individual freedoms. The European Union is committed to sharing its achievements and its values with countries and peoples beyond its borders.
IUCN Save Our Species, co-funded by the European Union supports IFAW’s Protecting Panda Masuie project in Zimbabwe. The agencies help contribute to ensuring rangers tasked with protecting the Panda Masuie Forestry Reserve have the skills, training and equipment they need to protect many animal species - including a number included on the IUCN Red List - from wildlife crime. The project also supports initiatives that support the well-being of communities and ensure they are able to coexist peacefully with wildlife.
The European Commission's Directorate General for Home Affairs via the Internal Security Fund Police is also funding the UNITE project, which aims to fight against criminal networks involved in either endangered species or waste trafficking, including illegal trade in timber, in and via the EU, and to recover the assets generated from these illegal activities. The project is coordinated by French Gendarmerie and implemented by IFAW and several NGOs and law enforcement agencies.
