Read moreFive elephant carcasses located in Kasungu National Park
It is with concern that IFAW has learned that five elephant carcasses have been located in Kasungu National Park, with estimated mortalities occurring between May and September 2024.
DNPW Malawi staff have stated that the dead elephants consist of three adult males, one adult female, and one calf. At present, there is no indication of any ivory being removed.
IFAW is committed to supporting DNPW Malawi as they investigate the cause of death of these elephants. Further details will be communicated by DNPW Malawi when these inquiries are concluded.
Note about the publication of this statement: A previous version of this statement was published on 16 October 2024 and removed by IFAW on 17 October 2024 to allow for further investigations into the situation by DNPW. IFAW may later update this statement to reflect the outcome of this ongoing investigation.
