Conservation Leadership in the Caribbean (CLiC) equips budding conservationists with the knowledge and skills to help protect wildlife and the habitats they call home.
Problem
Every nation should make wildlife and habitat conservation a priority, but not every nation has the resources to make that a reality. We believe that even when resources are tight, there is still a path forward. All it takes is the will to find and grow the right talent at home.
Solution
That is the simple yet powerful premise of our Conservation Leadership in the Caribbean (CLiC) program. We seek out budding conservationists around the region, help them hone their skills, and empower them to apply what they’ve learned toward protecting nature back home.
Over a two-year commitment, CLiC fellows learn leadership and campaigning skills, engage in conservation projects hands-on, and benefit from networking and mentoring opportunities.
Since launching in 2012, more than 60 emerging conservation leaders have participated in CLiC, representing not-for-profit, private, and governmental organizations from most countries from the wider Caribbean region.
After the program, most fellows have stayed in the Caribbean to work. One developed a project to stem the tide of an invasive species targeting lionfish across the region. Another, from the island of San Andres in Colombia, built a nursery for coral babies that is slowly but surely restoring the area’s reefs, and in turn reinvigorating marine life.
Every problem has a solution, every solution needs support.
The problems we face are urgent, complicated, and resistant to change. Real solutions demand creativity, hard work, and involvement from people like you.
