ivoorhandel door Nederlandse veilinghuizen
ivoorhandel door Nederlandse veilinghuizen
The Netherlands is one of the European countries with a significant role in the trade of elephant ivory. In the period from January 15 to April 15, 2018, IFAW conducted an investigation into the trade in ivory objects by auction houses in the Netherlands.
During this time frame alone, we've discovered 1,310 offers of elephant ivory; 88% of them via Dutch bricks-and-mortar auction houses do not have the correct papers.
This study ("Too High a Price for Elephants") confirms our concern about the enforcement of legislation in the Netherlands. We must act now to stop the ivory trade and secure the future of elephants!
