This year marks IFAW’s 50th anniversary, a time to celebrate our accomplishments and thank the supporters who have been with us each step of the way. In 1969 IFAW was formed by a small group of concerned people banding together to stop Canada’s cruel commercial seal hunt. In 1983, we helped bring about the European ban on whitecoat harp seal products, saving more than one million seal pups in the process. Today, we are rescuing more animals and conserving more habitats on land and sea than at any other point in our history.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many thousands of supporters who have remembered IFAW with a gift in their Will. These gifts have helped us rescue and protect so many animals in need around the world. But what about the next 50 years? In hopes of securing the future for animals, we have launched our 50 for 50 campaign. Our goal is to gain 1,500 new pledges and raise $50 million for the next 50 years for animals.
The campaign will run for two years from January 2019 to December 2020, and in just 11 months we have made amazing progress. We are currently at 56% of our goal with 734 new pledges, which is equivalent to $28 million in potential income! The great news is that anyone can take part and leave a gift in their Will. No matter how big or small, every gift makes a massive difference for animals in need.
These can be the most powerful gifts people make in their lifetime and I am personally incredibly moved when I learn about the generosity of our supporters. Writing your Will and including IFAW as one of your beneficiaries can ensure that your generosity supports a brighter future for animals all over the world.
