Neil Greenwood
Southern Africa
Neil Greenwood joined IFAW in 2003 as the Campaign Researcher for the Southern African Regional Office. Prior to IFAW Neil worked within the local NPO community on the rehabilitation of wildlife. As the national rehabilitation coordinator for the Raptor Conservation Group, he led efforts in establishing a national programme to rescue, rehabilitate, and release birds of prey that had been injured. Neil also worked on the rehabilitation of numerous mammal species, including rhinos, elephants, and other indigenous species.
In Neil’s various roles for the IFAW Southern Africa Regional office, most recently as Head of Programmes and Operations, he has worked on establishing and operationalizing of Landscape Conservation Projects within the region, including Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
He has also worked with colleagues in combatting wildlife crime in the region and has been instrumental in managing some of the first institutional grants (DEFRA, INL and USAID) received by IFAW for work in Southern Africa. This funding continues to be used in supporting governments in their efforts to combat the illegal killing and trade in wildlife.
Neil’s experience has come from a passion for wildlife conservation, cultivated from an early age. Much of Neil’s experience gained through hands-on field experience in creating practical solutions to the many threats facing wildlife within the region.
Currently Neil is the Regional Director for the Southern African region of IFAW where his role is to guide and support the development of IFAW’s institutional strategy through practical projects to address both the welfare and conservation of Africa’s wildlife.
