IFAW rushes aid to partners in Syria
Urgent animal rescue update
Watch: Bomb-damaged Syrian animal shelter still operating, needs help
December, 2024
Happening now, Syria: IFAW is rushing aid to our partner House of Cats Ernesto after their veterinary clinic was once again damaged by a recent nearby bombing. Despite being damaged and overwhelmed, they're still operating. Their mobile clinic is supporting abandoned animal shelters, providing medical treatment, food and water. One of these shelters has more than 530 animals, in desperate need of food and emergency veterinary care.
The incredible media shown above is not from this most recent bombing, but was taken in 2023 following an explosion caused by a nearby airstrike, preceded by catastrophic flooding and a deadly 7.1 earthquake. Then, as now,
Global impact: Thanks to IFAW donors, hope reaches animals and communities in disasters not only Syria but also Lebanon, the southeastern U.S., California, India, Greece, Lebanon, Mexico, the Caribbean, Brazil, Indonesia, Ukraine, and beyond.
All within the past year alone.
IFAW + House of Cats Ernesto
House of Cats Ernesto began 9 years ago when one man started feeding cats during the Syrian civil war. Today, they care for more than 2,500 animals, offering vital refuge and a beacon of hope for animals amidst devastation.
Since 2020, IFAW has supported this sanctuary by providing essential supplies, including animal food, antibiotics, vaccines, parasite treatments, and medical equipment. Despite their own shelter being overwhelmed and their veterinary clinic damaged, the House of Cats Ernesto team is also assisting abandoned shelters, providing medical treatment, food, and water-- one such shelter is currently caring for over 530 animals, many of whom urgently need food and emergency veterinary care.
