coexistence is a better existence for all
In the United States, we’re working to put a stop to inhumane, unscientific, ineffective practices to control wolf, coyote and other native wildlife populations.
Problem
In an attempt to control wolf and coyote populations, Wildlife Services routinely plant devices that contain powerful toxins or lethal traps and snares. Not only do these inhumane tools kill predators, they can harm and even kill pets and humans.
Solution
IFAW is lobbying Congress to restrict federal funding for these practices. We’re also encouraging communities to stop lethal and inhumane wildlife management while we work on changing policy at the Federal level.
Increasingly, predators aren’t just in rural areas. They’re in suburban and even urban areas, too. In the Chicago metropolitan area, the coyote population has doubled since 2005. So, we’ve increased our outreach to suburban neighborhoods, because there’s no geographic limit to learning how to live alongside wildlife.
Humans are in habitats across the United States where animals once thrived. It is our responsibility to live alongside native wildlife peacefully, and to avoid conflict. This means alerting authorities when we encounter wildlife near our homes, protecting livestock in agricultural areas, and banning indiscriminate poisoning of predators across the country.
By avoiding conflict and respecting native wildlife, we can live in peaceful coexistence with animals. This is the only way we can thrive together.
