Leonardo DiCaprio is an Academy Award® award-winning actor who has been recognised for his work as an actor, producer, and activist. DiCaprio has been a longtime champion of global environmental issues including climate change, wildlife conservation, access to clean water, protecting biodiversity, marine conservation and supporting Indigenous communities. To date, through his philanthropic efforts, DiCaprio has provided more than $100 million in grants to a variety of programmes and projects. In July 2019, in response to a growing climate crisis, DiCaprio, along with businesswoman and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs, co-founded Earth Alliance, an organisation created to activate and mobilise a global response to the urgent threats that our planet is facing.
DiCaprio has been an active supporter of IFAW’s work since his induction to the Honorary Board in 2011. He has used his platforms to raise awareness about urgent disaster response efforts like the 2019 Australian bushfires, garner support for critical legislation like the China Ivory Trade Ban and inspire the conservationists of tomorrow with education initiatives.
